This is REALLY good news! This week we will release what is probably the best gambling style Mahjong game – the Shenzen or Bang Bang game.
I had the good fortune to play this in the Holiday Inn Mahjong room in Macau and it is a really terrific game to play. Basically the game revolves around getting Kongs. You can declare Mahjong on any hand (even a chicken hand) and there is a nice lucky dip type bonus game that happens depending on your circumstances when you go out.
For full rules please see the rules page.
If you love playing Mahjong, then you might also enjoy watching some of these Mahjong based movies – who knows, you might even pick up some useful hints and tips for playing!
Bet to Basic
An unsuccessful gangster bring his extraordinarily lucky brother to a casino in the home of winning big in games of Mahjong. However, when he sees the downfall of other Mahjong players, he decides that he doesn’t want to play. However, some of the most famous players have already spotted his talent, and are keen to have him on their side.
Kung Fu Mahjong
This is a 2005 comedy movie in which an obsessive Mahjong player meets a man with a photographic memory. Whilst this might not be of quite as much use in a game like partypoker, for example, it is perfect for playing Mahjong. There are also two sequels to this film – one of which was released later the same year! – and a second which was released in 2007.
Fat Choi Spirit
Fat Choi Spirit is a 2003 comedy film, starring Andy Lau as a keen Mahjong player. He meets the woman of his dreams, who brings him good luck when playing Mahjong, but refuses to marry her because she has such a bad temper when she loses. How will he make amends with his family, win over the beautiful Gigi, and become the champion Mahjong player? If you’re looking for an easy-to-watch movie that will make you laugh, then this is a great choice.
Why, Why, Tell Me Why?
Why, Why, Tell Me Why? is one of the older mahjong movies around – but then, the game itself is ancient! This comedy tells the story of a young man who hates mahjong, after his mother was addicted to play. However, all that looks set to change, after he falls in love with a girl who likes nothing better than to play.
